Squamish’s Westwinds to host art show and sale

Westwinds artists will host an art show and sale on March 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. About 20 artists are expected to be in attendance.

Artists at the Westwinds will soon be hosting a public art show and sale.

Ken Kwok and John Polan are the organizers of the event, with help from the Westwinds Resident Committee. The event will take place on both March 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Westwinds building on Third Avenue behind Save-On-Foods.

“We find that there are so many talented seniors,” said Kwok. “Some of the works, I will say they’re masterpieces.”

Kwok said the new building has a dedicated corridor for hanging some of the art from the residents, making it like a gallery for all of them to view. For this upcoming art show and sale, Kwok said about 20 artists would have paintings, cards, rock art, pottery and much more available.

“They’re all retired but still young at heart,” he said of the artists.

Kwok said the overall idea for the show was not about money, but about showcasing the talents of the artists.

The event will take place on the first floor of the new building and could offer a chance for the public to view the new facility for seniors, which opened for the residents in April 2022. Kwok added that light refreshments such as coffee, muffins and cake would be available.

Some artists will also be doing live painting as the show and sale go on throughout the day.

Kwok spoke highly of the new building, describing it as feeling like being in a nice hotel.

“There’s not that many places in ߣÄÌÉçÇøyou can have that kind of quality of living and the rent is not expensive compared to the market rate,” he said. “So, I am very lucky.”
