A safety notification in December 2022 states that certain batches of the聽Finocchiona Salami Sweet Fennel by Venetian Meats have been recalled in BC.

Health Canada warns that certain batches of a type of salami have been recalled due to Salmonella.

A safety notification issued on Thursday (Dec. 22) states that certain batches of Finocchiona Salami Sweet Fennel by Venetian Meats could be contaminated.

The affected product has been removed from stores due to the possible presence of Salmonella. It was sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, and Ontario in 2 kg packages with the following lot number: 242 2023.AU.09.

There have been no reported illnesses related to the consumption of the recalled product. However, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is conducting a food safety investigation that could lead to the recall of other products.

What you should do

If you think you've gotten sick from eating the recalled salami, contact your doctor. Check to see if you have any additional recalled products.

Do not eat, serve, or sell the recalled product and throw it out or return it to the place where you originally purchased it.

Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections.

Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis.
