Born and bred in Calgary, I鈥檝e now lived here for more than half of my life. For nearly 32 years I鈥檝e been a Prince George guy covering news and sports, first with Prince George This Week and, since October 1994, with the Citizen. It鈥檚 the friendly people of PG that made me and my family call this city our home. We鈥檙e surrounded by nature and my love of the outdoors is fueled by our close proximity to forests, lakes, rivers mountains and trails that allow you to get out and appreciate our splendid natural areas.
I鈥檓 always on the hockey bandwagon of the WHL Cougars, BCHL Spruce Kings and NHL Calgary Flames and I feel fortunate to still be able to lace 鈥榚m up with the Rusty Nuts Oldtimers. I鈥檓 into tennis and gardening and I鈥檓 also big into getting out on the trails with our dogs, taking them skiing at Otway Norrdic Centre (one of Canada鈥檚 best Nordic facilities) or heading out on the single-track trails for a ride or run.
Most of my time at the Citizen has been providing sports coverage but I also get to write news stories. The opportunity to pretend I know things about all kinds of topics is not only challenging but quite rewarding. It makes my job as a journalist a paid education. I鈥檝e met some amazingly interesting and good-hearted people getting out into the community to do my job and they are a continual reminder I made the right career choice.
