Victoria has been named the world’s most walkable city outside the U.S. by readers of the online TravelAwaits group.

Victoria was ranked above the other Canadian cities on the list, Quebec City in 13th place and Vancouver in 15th.

“A visit to Victoria is not complete until a traveller has had a stroll through the city’s Inner Harbour,” the site says. “This waterfront area has beautiful views, exciting events and several interesting landmarks.”

It points out visitors can take tea at the Fairmont Empress Hotel or visit the legislature and also urges visitors to check out Butchart Gardens.

Of Quebec City, the site wrote: “A confused traveller would be forgiven for thinking that they found themselves in Europe after a brief walk in this Canadian city.”

Vancouver got a mention for its “dense exciting downtown,” including Robson and Granville streets.

TravelAwaits is geared to travellers age 50 and over.

Its readers seem quite fond of Victoria, also naming it as the best midsize city in the world.
