B.C.’s Stemcell Technologies is opening a new sales office in Toronto at the MaRS Centre.

The MaRS Discovery District is a non-profit medical research hub with more than 100 medical and biotech companies.

Stemcell supplies stem cell technology – cell culture media, cell separation technology, and instruments – to researchers and health care professionals that use stem cells in medicine and research.

It is B.C.’s largest biotechnology company, and continues to grow and expand. Last year alone, Stemcell hired 700 new workers, bringing its total headcount to 2,300, with 1,800 of those individuals working in B.C.

The company now has offices in eight countries: Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Germany, China, South Korea, and Singapore.

“The opening of our new Toronto base marks a major milestone in Stemcell’s 30-year history and is a testament to our growing presence in North America,” Stemcell founder and CEO Allen Eaves said in a press release.

“This facility will enable us to strengthen ties in the Toronto area and better support the scientists in both academia and industry who are doing great work here.”

Stemcell notes that the MaRS centre hosts 120 tenants including “globally recognized research labs, tech corporates, capital providers, and many of Canada’s most promising health and life sciences startups.

Stemcell will be locating its new sales office in the MaRS' West Tower, at 661 University Avenue.

“As a company of scientist helping scientists, Stemcell is looking forward to being part of the MaRS community and collaborating with leading principal investigators to tackle some of the biggest challenges of our time,” Eaves said.
