Prince George's Northern Lights Estate Winery has picked up four awards at the Sommelier's Choice Awards held in San Francisco.

The winery picked up four awards -- two silver and two bronze – in its first time competing.

The 2019 Heritage Haskap received 87 points and was described by the judges as having "good candied fruit notes, strawberry jam all throughout the nose, with smooth tannins, great fruit presence, amazing finish."

Although the majority of wines entered in this year's awards were grape wines, fruit wines picked up a number of awards.

"Some people, and the wine industry really, still underestimate fruit wine," Northern Lights Owner, Doug Bell said, "but wins like this go to show that quality fruit wines are out there and many are made right here in B.C."
