Police in Peel Region say they've arrested 16 people as part of an auto-theft investigation that has resulted in the recovery of 369 stolen vehicles.

Police say they've laid a total of 322 charges so far and have issued arrest warrants for 10 more people.

They say the seven-month investigation, called Project Odyssey, recovered 255 vehicles in Peel Region and 114 vehicles at the Port of Montreal, where the cars were intended for export.

Police say a Peel-based company was helping to transport stolen vehicles out of a trucking yard in Brampton, Ont.

The force says that last year, more than 8,300 vehicles were reported stolen in Peel Region, making it the highest in Ontario for per-capita auto thefts.
