As a 10-year volunteer and avid spectator of the Test of Metal,I am writing to express my support for the Test of Metal Sports Park.
Although I've never actually raced, I've ridden the entire course and immensely enjoy the peaceful pace of these rides. I am your average local citizen who has been introduced to mountain bike riding through this community event. I will never be a racer, but will cherish the memories of many rides on these very trails and the community spirit the Test Of Metal event inspires.
Where else could you lose something and go back to find a neighbour about to pick it up and drop it off at the local bike shop to see if someone claims them? It would be terrible to lose the opportunity to ride this network of trails and lose the history that a key grassroots group has worked so hard to establish with numerous government agencies and land owners.
My personal fitness program includes riding the TOM trails and I know that the event brings numerous economic benefits to our community. Everyone, please encourage our government agencies to support the groups who are so tirelessly working to achieve the goal of park status for these trails.
While on the subject of parks, we are in the peak season of eagle viewing. Wouldn't it be great to point down the road and say just go along until you see the sign "Eagle View Park"? I think both parks would be a great legacy for the current council to work toward. Suzanne Kenney
