It was a very cold and windy day on Saturday (March 28) when approximately 50 participants of all ages took part in the 撸奶社区Helping Hands Society's Walk-a-thon. Hats off to Susan Petruk who organized this event as when all the pledges were added up, over $4,500 was raised. After the walk, it was great to have coffee, juice and delicious snacks waiting for all the walkers.
The Hilltop House Support Society is run by a group of dedicated volunteers whose purpose is to make the life of the residents a little more pleasant. The next meeting of the Support Society will be held at HTH on Thursday (April 9) at 9:30 a.m. People who have family members at Hilltop and members of the general public are invited to attend as new members are always welcome.
The 撸奶社区Public Library staff invites you to join them on Wednesday (April 8) at 7 p.m. when they welcome author, Maria Coffey. Her latest book, Explorers of the Infinite, focuses on the spiritual and paranormal experiences of extreme athletes, including mountaineers, cyclists and ultramarathoners. Maria has also been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey.
On Sunday (April 5) the 撸奶社区Environmental Conservation Society will gather for the monthly bird count. Please note the new spring and summer hours as you are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company at 7 a.m. Several swallows have been sighted and the group will be looking for mountain blue birds and other spring arrivals. Join the musicians at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Sunday (April 5) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for the monthly GrassRoots Jam. It's always a fun evening and you are welcome to participate or sit back and enjoy the talent.
Photographer Dag Goering will be a guest at the 撸奶社区Public Library on Monday (April 6) at 7 p.m. for an Artist's Reception and slide show presentation. An invitation is extended to everyone to this free evening. This event is in partnership with the 撸奶社区Visuals Group.
The Over the Hill Hikers are asked to meet at the end of Tantalus Road on Tuesday (April 7) at 10 a.m. for a Crouching Squirrel Hidden Monkey hike. If you wish more information, please give Heather a call at 604-892-9003.
The next big fundraising effort for the Women's Auxiliary to the 撸奶社区General Hospital is the Mother's Day Spring Raffle in May. Funds raised will enable the WA to purchase a billy bed for the elderly at Hilltop House at a cost of $3,000. The prizes in the raffle are: first $250 cash, second $175 cash and third $100 cash. Members of the WA will be at Nesters Food Market this weekend and at Wal-Mart on April 17 and 18.
There are just two nights left to take in Between Shifts Theatre's offerings of Take Another 5 - An Evening of One Act Plays and the actors take to the stage at the Eagle Eye Theatre tonight and Saturday (April 3 and 4) at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and available at the Adventure Centre and Billie's Bouquet.
Seniors who have issued or concerns they would like to discuss with our Member of Parliament John Weston are asked to attend the Town Hall Meeting on Thursday (April 9) at 1 p.m. in the Tantalus Seniors' Centre at 1471 Pemberton Avenue.
On Thursday (April 9) there is a Loonie Pro D Day Skate from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre arena. There is also a Good Friday Skate from 1 to 3 p.m.
Another Bingo Night is planned at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #70 on Monday (April 6) with doors open at 5:30 p.m. and bingo at 6:30 p.m.

Friends of the Library are holding a book sale at the 撸奶社区Public Library on Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, April 19 from 10 a.m. t 12:30 p.m. Books in good condition are welcome for the sale but no text books, readers digests or encyclopedias. Please take note, the Library will be closed on Good Friday, April 10 and Easter Sunday, April 12.
