Editor,
Many have heard of 撸奶社区Valley's limited or non-existent 911-ambulance service. Recently experiencing first-hand this lack of 911-ambulance service, as a 撸奶社区resident who frequently bike-rides to the 撸奶社区Valley, I am writing this letter to raise awareness amongst 撸奶社区residents and visitors to the 撸奶社区Valley.
This letter is also to communicate what a phenomenally positive and supportive community 撸奶社区is, and to express gratitude.
Moments after my bike crash on April 14, while I was injured and bleeding, on the 撸奶社区Valley road, the 911 dispatcher was so unfamiliar with the 撸奶社区Valley area that my fellow bike riders' detailed description to the dispatcher of our location near Mile 14 on the 撸奶社区Valley Road was somehow completely foreign to the dispatcher. After repeated good driving directions from my fellow riders, the dispatcher asked if there was a restaurant nearby (!).
Whether you are a local or from-afar visitor to the 撸奶社区Valley, be aware that if you or those in your group need medical attention - you could be on-your-own for getting to the hospital or medical professional.
Fields of daffodils to the many kind souls who generously helped me, with little concern about their own inconvenience, after I face-planted at 30km-h off my road bike. Thank you to Dave Heisler of Corsa Cycles and fellow riders for their immediate, calming actions which had me get to 撸奶社区Emergency ASAP and then for their long-waiting support at the hospital.
Thank you Elaine Wall and Danielle Godin who turned their truck around five minutes from their home in 撸奶社区Valley to drive me, a bloody, sweaty stranger to them, to the hospital 20 minutes away and then stay with me until friends arrived. Apparently Danielle had just completed a first aid course, and Elaine and Danielle were calm and comforting, as they drove and dealt with this stranger with a smashed, bleeding face.
Thank you to Teresa Hoivik, Sandra Heisler and Helle Wilburn for their kindness and support. And to fellow rider Teresa who returned to the hospital again at 11 p.m. to give me a ride. Thank you to Dr. Martin, nurses and technicians for their generous, attentive care despite the challenges they deal with associated with budget decisions.
Thank you to Candy Jones for checking daily on my oozing wounds at home when I barely had use of only one eye. Thank you to Andrew Vit and Don Petrocco for giving of their valuable time (and gas), driving way out of their way in Burnaby, to get me to and from the plastic surgeon. Thank you to neighbours and friends for their kindness and support. You and people like you are what makes 撸奶社区such a phenomenal community to be part of as home.
