One answer that no one will want to hear is the idea of a 'living wage' that was floated around before COVID-19 reared its ugly head. Academics were studying and pushing the idea that everyone needed a living wage.
The failed economics of COVID-19 relief programs like CERB that expanded the scope of unemployment insurance and increased monthly payments beyond regular UI or Canada pension Plan payments proved the possibility of a living wage as a fallacy. Throwing buckets of money out the door, out of control borrowing, out of control deficits and out of control debt in a very short three-year time span showed the idea of a living wage is unfeasible.
To be fair to Trudeau, it was just not only a Made In Canada problem. All western democracies went down a yellow brick road paved with good intentions but have been proved as totally unsustainable. Canada, along with other western democracies, rely on a global economy based on cheap goods and cheap labour.
To be fair to Canadians, Trudeau has compounded Canada's problems by declaring war on Canadian oil and gas. These two commodities keep Canada afloat.
Trudeau has declared war on pipelines, the lifelines of Canadian Oil and Gas.
Under Trudeau, Canada once had a pipe dream of a living wage. Now under Trudeau, Canada just has a nightmare pipe dream of inflation, deficits and debt.
Notice the silence that the academics are no longer talking or pushing for a living wage.
Canada cannot afford a living wage or Trudeau.
