You likely noticed something new last week on this page and astute readers will see there's another surprise on the opinion page today.
We introduced you to Helmut Manzl's new column called Quantum Shift. Helmut is a local citizen with a strong desire to write and more than enough skill and ability.
Look for Helmut to cover a range of local issues and don't be surprised if law and order themes pop up regularly. Helmut is one of the dedicated civilian RCMP volunteers who is helping the police on a regular basis in the community.
Now, that takes us to this week and the reintroduction of Paul Demers. After a hiatus from a regular column, Paul decided to get back in the game with his column dubbed In the Wind.
You might recognize his name from our letters pages as he likes to share his opinion and he hasn't been afraid to share it.He will be sharing every two weeks as of this week.
This is a great time to debut a new columnist who happens to be a schoolteacher. He teaches our next generation of writers how it is done and he is now going to be teaching by example through his work with The Chief.
I'm sure we'll get more of his perspective on the labour dispute between teachers and the public school employers' association. Paul also brings the parent perspective to this page as he has children in the the local school system.
We are very happy and excited to introduce both Paul and Helmut.
At the same time we are sad to bid goodbye to Bryan Raiser after many years of dedicated service to this page every second week. He decided to go political and he agreed with us that he couldn't continue to have his columns published in The Chief through the campaign. We expect the goodbye won't last long because if he is successful in winning a seat on District of 撸奶社区Council, he will return to the opinion pages on occasion writing as a member of Council in the Council Corner column.
If Raiser falls short of the mark, we promised him there would still be a place for him to continue spreading his cynical sunshine after the election campaign.
The future of this page looks bright and I hope you will read the work of our new contributors then make them and The Chief accountable for the opinions they share with us. If you read something that makes you cringe or laugh or cry or scream in frustration you have to remember that there's room in this paper for you too. Write me a letter and vent - it will make you feel better.
