The second annual Project Pride kicked off Saturday morning.
On Sept. 2, about 60 climbers joined the climbing and bouldering clinic founded by Michelle LeBlanc at the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park. The event gathers 2SLGBTQIA+ climbers of all skill levels for a day of learning, camaraderie and fun.
“[The] biggest thing today is to have fun,” LeBlanc said to the crowd after going over the day’s schedule.
A new addition to this year’s event was bringing in U.S. professional rock climber, Alex Johnson, to help instruct some of the group and later to have a short Q&A.
The openly 2SLGBTQIA+ professional climber has won numerous competitions in her career, including two World Cup gold medals and five U.S. national championships, among many other bouldering feats.
ߣÄÌÉçÇølocal organizations showed up at the start and, after a full day of bouldering, the event will finish with an after-party at Ground Up Climbing Centre.
"I want people to be inspired to kind of grow their skill set and learn some of the things from climbing that I've learned and translate that into their own lives," LeBlanc previously told The ߣÄÌÉçÇø.
