An 82-year-old Whistler man is dead following an on-mountain incident that occurred Saturday morning, Whistler Blackcomb has confirmed.
A spokesperson for the resort said ski patrol responded to a ski incident on Ridge Runner, a blue-rated intermediate run in the Crystal zone on Blackcomb Mountain, at around 9:30 a.m. on March 18. Whistler Blackcomb confirmed no other guests contributed to or were involved in the event.
The skier was transported to the Whistler Health Care Centre, where, after receiving further emergency care and evaluation, he was pronounced deceased.
“Whistler Blackcomb, Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends,” said Doug Pierini, Whistler Blackcomb's interim chief operating officer, in a statement.
The man's cause of death has yet to be determined. The BC Coroners Service said it is investigating.
