Another opening day at Whistler Blackcomb is in the books, and a lack of snow on the valley floor didn't dampen spirits on the big occasion.
If you missed out, the B-roll footage above—shot by Matt Sylvestre and shared by Whistler Blackcomb—should give you a sense of how early-season conditions (and stoke levels) are panning out so far.
But as mentioned, natural snow has been hard to come by this year, so early-season terrain is limited.
"Due to early-season conditions, there is a mandatory download in effect," WB said in its . "You can download at Blackcomb Gondola, Whistler Village Gondola, Excalibur Gondola, and Creekside Gondola. There is limited beginner terrain available—we recommend beginners ski Whistler Mountain."
Lifts running on opening day include Blackcomb Gondola, Excalibur Gondola, Excelerator, Jersey Cream, and Catskinner on Blackcomb Mountain, as well as Whistler Village Gondola, Creekside Gondola, Red Chair, Emerald, and Franz’s Chair on Whistler Mountain. The Peak 2 Peak is also running.
The available terrain consists of Upper Ego Bowl, Extension/Family Zone, Upper Whiskey Jack, Pig Alley, Orange Peel, Papoose, Lower Pony Trail Bypass/ Cat Track, and Mid Pony Trail Road/ Upper Bear Cub Road on Whistler; and Wishbone, Choker, Easy Out and Lower Catskinner on Blackcomb.
"Obey all mountain signage, ski and ride on open runs only, and stay within the current operational area marked by boundary signage. Be wary of hazards that lie beneath the surface of the snow," WB said in its ops update.
