A culvert replacement will prompt road closures beginning April 22, which will affect access to the Spit and therefore local kiteboarders and other recreationalists.

Beginning April 22, partial and full closures of the lower part of the 撸奶社区River Training Berm, more commonly known as Spit Road, will be in place to accommodate active restoration work.

The 撸奶社区River Watershed Society in partnership with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the 撸奶社区Nation and the District of 撸奶社区is undertaking the project.

The purpose of the project is to improve estuary access from the river for juvenile salmonids.

Culvert replacement and road works are expected to be finished in May 2019, and side channel works by June 2019.

"The [撸奶社区Windsports Society] board has been communicating with the Watershed Society to highlight wind-sports enthusiasts' objectives over the past year," said the 撸奶社区Windsports Society鈥檚 director of community relations Alyssa Salloum in a press release.

"The [撸奶社区Windsports Society] will continue to be in contact with the Watershed Society and all stakeholders throughout the project's construction."

In the coming days, people travelling along the road may notice survey stakes, marked trees and work being done in preparation of the project, the society says.

"We will be monitoring the project closely," said 撸奶社区Windsports Society president Geoffrey Waterson in the release. "We are working hard with all involved parties to continue to maintain access to the Spit for all users."
