The awards recognize excellence in community journalism.

The 撸奶社区 won Gold in the General Excellence Award category, which means the judges chose it as the best paper in B.C. in its circulation category of 6,001 to 11,000 print papers delivered.

The Williams Lake Tribune took Silver in our category, while the Yukon 撸奶社区 took Bronze.

To choose the winner, the judges evaluate various aspects of the newspaper, including the quality of the news provided, the look of the front page, photography and its overall design.

The award was announced at a gala at the Polygon Gallery in North Vancouver on April 20. The trophy arrived at The 撸奶社区's office on May 29.

Importance of ‘Ma Murray’

The Ma Murray Awards are named after Margaret "Ma" Murray, a legend in Canadian journalism, who died in 1982. She was a publisher of B.C. papers, who was “famous for her pungent editorials on politics, economics and morals; she delighted and infuriated with her acid, earthy wit, most points emphasized with ‘and that's fur damshur,’” as noted in .
