A ߣÄÌÉçÇøRCMP officer sustained minor injuries on the job today, but was still able to get the job done.
Early Sunday, April 23, Mounties received a report of a motion alarm going off at ߣÄÌÉçÇøSavings bank, on Pemberton Avenue.
The police officer who went to investigate found a broken window and saw a man carrying items leaving the bank through the window, according to an RCMP news release.
The officer called for immediate backup.
While driving a police cruiser — with lights and sirens on — to the scene to assist, a second officer crashed into a median, police say.
"Due to heavy rainfall and puddling in the streets, while making the turn on Cleveland Avenue, the cruiser hydroplaned and collided with the centre median, causing significant damage to the vehicle," the release states.
The officer was able to leave the crash, get to ߣÄÌÉçÇøSavings and help the first officer with the arrest of the suspect.
The second officer then went to the hospital to be assessed, and was later released.
The suspect remains in police custody awaiting a hearing.
“I am glad that no one was seriously injured in the collision and everyone was able to go home today. The ߣÄÌÉçÇøRCMP members did a tremendous job taking the bank robbery suspect into custody,” said StaffSgt. Gareth Bradley, in the release.
