Emergency repairs prompt $27,500 spend on Brennan Park pool air unit

Failures of the dehumidifier require two phases of repairs, one of which has been completed.

Problems with Brennan Park’s pool deck air unit prompted a spend of about $27,500.

According to a municipal staff report attached to council’s meeting on April 4, the air unit started having issues in the last six months. Minor repairs were made.

However, recently, more work needed to be done.

“In the last few weeks, more issues were found and leaks and compressor failures were found on both stages of the dehumidifier,” reads the report. “The manufacturer no longer supports original equipment, and finding solutions delayed repairs, which led to equipment failure. One of the two stages has failed and requires immediate repairs to get it running again.”

The report says there will need to be a replacement of compressors and a leak repair and refrigerant recharge is required.

Without the unit running at full capacity, the pool deck is more humid than ideal.

“If the unit fails completely, the pool will need to close, which, of course, impacts the public and programming,” the report said.

Staff proposed to repair one stage this spring and the second stage in September during the annual pool shutdown, the report said.

Repairs to one stage were expected to run at $27,500, the report said. The cost of the immediate repairs will be covered by the accumulated surplus in the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District budget.

The report did not mention the estimated cost of repairing the second stage.

As of April 11, that first phase of repairs has been completed, reads a statement from District spokesperson Rachel Boguski, which was sent to The 撸奶社区 on April 13.

Regarding humidity and working conditions, there are no concerns for the health and welfare of Brennan Park’s staff.

“Humidity conditions within the facility are monitored on a continual basis through the building B.A.S. (Building Automation System), as well as daily on-site checks by facility staff,” wrote Boguski. “Dehumidification and air exchanges have been provided throughout the work and will continue to be supplied during fine tuning.”
