Fire trucks in Valleycliffe will need a home while the new fire hall is being built, so District council is .

The structure's cost has not been finalized yet, but is expected to cost roughly $860,000, said Jesse Morwood, the municipality's capital projects manager.

The contract will be signed with Kinetic Construction.

Morwood said he didn't have exact figures on hand, but the price represented an increase from initial estimates made in December 2019.

"It's a bit higher than that number," he said. "There was some escalation."

He noted the municipality will have to buy a bay for the trucks and insulate it so they don't freeze.

"There were some scope changes on it, so it's not surprising," said Morwood. "I would add we made sure there was a contingency in that budget, and we're still well within that contingency... it's well within our budget allowance this year."

Creating the building will allow for service in the Valleycliffe area to continue while a new hall is being constructed at the site of the existing Alex Munro Fire Hall No. 1 on Clarke Drive.

Part of the area by the hospital at Clarke and Guilford will be taken up by the temporary fire hall. Some trees will be cleared for a new gravel parking lot. It will make up for the existing parking space that the structure will occupy.
