Construction to begin this month on pedestrian bridge to downtown Squamish

Bosa Properties and Kingswood Properties received final approval and will begin construction this month for the bridge from SEAandSKY to downtown.

The pedestrian bridge over Mamquam Blind Channel is set to begin construction this month.

According to a news release, Bosa Properties and Kingswood Properties have received final approval from (DFO) to begin construction in October for the bridge, which will connect downtown ߣÄÌÉçÇøwith the SEAandSKY development.

“This bridge is a big milestone for SEAandSKY residents and for ߣÄÌÉçÇøat large – it’s been a central piece of our vision for the community since we first began our masterplan design,” said the director of development for Bosa Properties, Lucas Berube, in the release.

The bridge is said to accommodate both pedestrian and waterway traffic and feature artwork from ߣÄÌÉçÇøNation artists Carla Spence and Calvin Dawson. After the bridge is completed, it will be owned and operated by the District of Squamish.

“Beyond being a beautiful piece of architectural achievement, the bridge will be a connector of community – enabling residents to easily access downtown Squamish, and welcoming the broader community to experience what makes SEAandSKY so special,” Berube continued.

The bridge was approved as an amenity by council in 2017 and will connect with downtown at Victoria Street.

Moreover, the District recently announced the opening of a portion of Waterfront Landing Park in the SEAandSKY neighbourhood.

“The first phase of the new District-owned community park has been completed. The park offers an expansive natural landscape, complete with ample greenspace, walking and cycling paths, a children's playground area and scenic lookout points,” reads update.

Additions to be completed by the fall of 2024 include a pump track, basketball court and other green spaces.

More homes are under construction in the region, with others being proposed, and an amenity centre is scheduled to start construction this upcoming spring.
