This week, the has brought about 70 burn survivors to the annual Burn Camp in Squamish.
The camp is on this week from July 16 to 21 and brings in burn survivors aged six to 18 for 鈥渆mpowerment, connection and fun,鈥 according to a news release.
In addition to the survivors, over 50 camp counsellors and support staff come to help the campers.
Burn Camp takes place at the in Brackendale, with the BC Professional Fire Fighters鈥 Burn Fund covering all Burn Camp expenses, according to the release.
A committee of firefighters and medical personnel organizes the camp.
This year鈥檚 Burn Camp is hosted by the District of North Vancouver Firefighters Local 1183.
Alongside Burn Camp, the Camp Kick Off also features a Young Burn Survivors鈥 Family Day for children five and under, who will be future Burn Camp participants.
鈥淲ith arts and crafts organized by nurses who are members of the Burn Collaborative 鈥 a partnership between the Burn Fund and BC Children鈥檚 Hospital 鈥 these children have the opportunity to experience the spirit of Burn Camp firsthand,鈥 the release continued.
The Burn Fund was established in 1978 by the BC Professional Fire Fighters鈥 Association which supports burn survivors and works to increase the public鈥檚 knowledge about fire and burn prevention.
