This evening (Mar. 5) Capilano College presents the third annual Hot Jazz & Tapas at the Eagle Eye Theatre from 7 to 10 p.m. It will feature musicians Kate Hammett-Vaughn and Steve Maddock, New Orleans-style food, and a silent auction. The college has tickets available at $25 each. This is a fundraiser for the Linda Carney Memorial Endowment Fund with proceeds benefiting students at the 撸奶社区campus.
Christians around the world will be focusing on the country of Panama during the annual World Day of Prayer service. Local residents are invited to join in this worldwide event by attending a service at 撸奶社区United Church on Fourth Avenue tonight (Mar. 5) at 7:30 p.m. The services, written by the women of Panama, reflect on the theme "In Faith, Women Shape The Future".
Offerings received during the services across Canada provide funding for deserving projects, workshops, shelter for women and children refugee claimants and worldwide assistance is given in many countries to the less fortunate. Following the service refreshments will be served.
A children and family concert is being held in the Mamquam School gym tonight (Mar. 5) at 6:30 p.m. and will feature Paul Hann, a Juno-nominated entertainer. Tickets, at $5 each, are available at the school and at Billie's Bouquet. Proceeds from this concert will go to the arts program at Mamquam School.
In memory of the seven citizens of 撸奶社区who lost their lives in the tragic accident on Jan. 31 the 撸奶社区Sikh Society invite residents to join with them in the final prayer (Bhog) at 10 a.m. Saturday (Mar. 6). The Akhand Path, a continuous recital of the entire Sikh scriptures (Guru Granth Sahib) commenced on Thursday morning (Mar. 4). The residents of 撸奶社区are welcome to attend on Saturday morning and lunch will be served after.
Tomorrow night (Mar. 6) The Vagina Monologues will be performed at Totem Hall at 7:30 p.m. This performance is a fund raiser to help put an end to violence against women and girls. Tickets are available at Billie's Bouquet, Eagle Run Coffee Company and Totem Hall in advance for $12 each, or at the door for $15 each.
The 撸奶社区Food Bank distribution day is Wednesday (Mar.10) from 12 noon to 1 p.m. at the Elks' Hall on Second Avenue.
The next "Not Just For Seniors" program will air on Channel 10 on Tuesday (Mar. 9) at both 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., and on Wednesday (Mar. 10) at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. The guest will be Dr. Laverne Kindree. He no doubt will have some interesting stories to share!

Howe Sound Women's Center is offering a free three-hour legal clinic for women and it will be held on Thursday, Mar. 18, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is facilitated by Battered Women's Support Services and there will be daycare and lunch provided. The Chronic Disease Self-Management program is led by pairs of trained volunteer leaders. To enable those with a chronic condition such as hypertension, arthritis, diabetes, fibromyalgia, etc. to participate in a group, trained volunteers are required. Spring Break begins next week and youngsters aged seven to 12 are invited to The Brennan Park Recreation Center for March Madness Day next Friday (Mar. 12), from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. It will be a day filled with games, crafts, swimming and more. To celebrate International Women's Day, the 撸奶社区Public Library will be showing a documentary film on the life and work of archeologist Marja Gimbutas. An open discussion will follow the screening on Tuesday, (Mar. 9) at 7 p.m. Admission is by donation with proceeds going towards purchasing a copy of the film for the library.
