This is the first annual Garibaldi Day in 撸奶社区and many celebrations are planned beginning with a special public presentation at the 撸奶社区Public Library of historic artifacts pertaining to the life of Giuseppe Garibaldi. It is sponsored by the District of 撸奶社区and will be held at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (July 3).
Everyone is invited to Watts Point (three miles south of Squamish) for the formal re-dedication of the Garibaldi Monument at 12 noon on Sunday (July 4). Following this ceremony, the Garibaldi Day picnic at Stan Clarke Park (across from the Chamber of Commerce building on Cleveland Avenue) will be ongoing from 1 to 5 p.m. There will be performing artists on the main stage and the Canadian Tire Bocce tournament from 2:30 to 4 p.m.
Britannia Beach is celebrating 100 years of mining and Reunion 2004 promises to be a wonderful experience with events planned on Saturday and Sunday (July 3 and 4). Registration and meet-and-greet takes place tonight (July 2) from 7 to 10 p.m. Many former residents will have many memories brought back when they tour the B.C. Museum of Mining. When living in Furry Creek from 1959 to 1962, George and I often shopped at the little grocery store and loved the friendly atmosphere and tasty food served up at the Chatterbox Caf茅.
Howe Sound Women's Centre is looking for volunteers to help out at Pearl's 2nds during the summer months. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and training will be provided for anyone interested. This is a great way for students to learn retail skills. Summer holidays have begun for students and teachers and the Brennan Park Recreation Centre staff has many programs lined up for July and August. New this year is the music camp for ages six to nine years and it runs July 12 to 16 and Aug. 23 to 27 each day Monday to Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Each week there are adventure outings for six to 12-year-olds. Each week includes lots of wilderness adventures and games with swimming to cool off with. Leaping Lakes is from July 5 to 9 and Oceans Galore runs from July 12 to 16. Rev. Brenda Faust has been the minister at 撸奶社区United Church since August 1999. On Sunday, June 2, the outdoor service was also Rev. Faust's farewell service as she will be moving to Port Coquitlam to continue her ministry at Trinity United Church. All good wishes and blessing go with Brenda in her new church. On Aug. 1, 撸奶社区United will welcome supply minister Rev. Dr. Douglas Lobb to the congregation.
A last call for teens ages 13 years and up to join the Teen Book Club discussion next Tuesday (July 6) at 5:30 p.m. at the 撸奶社区public Library. Capilano College is hosting 39 students from Japan who will be in 撸奶社区from July 25 to Aug. 3. The college is looking for caring families who will welcome the students into their homes.
