ABOUT TOWN: go back in time for tea at Heritage Park

The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is nearing the end of Heritage Week with a lovely old fashioned Heritage Tea Saturday (Feb. 21) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is nearing the end of Heritage Week with a lovely old fashioned Heritage Tea Saturday (Feb. 21) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are recommended by calling 604-898-9336, but you will not be turned away if you haven't made the reservation. While at the park do plan on visiting the Brightbill Heritage house in its authentic setting of the 1940s. It has been a labour of love with many volunteers spending hours restoring the second floor of the home. It will take you back to another era and both children and adults will find it a fascinating place to visit.



This is the night (Feb. 20) for the Glow in the Dark Skate family skate at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre from 7:25 p.m. to 8:25 p.m. From 8:40 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. it's an everyone-welcome skate. On Friday, Feb. 27, the family and everyone are invited to the Wild West Skate from 7:25 p.m. to 9:40 p.m. The power yoga workshop is Saturday (Feb. 21) from 1 to 4:30 p.m. and pre-registration is required.



There is a Shrove Tuesday pancake supper at St. John's Anglican Church on Tuesday, (Feb. 24) starting at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome and the fundraiser is in support of the youth group. The suggested donation is $5 each or $10 for the family.



The Cedar Valley School is holding an open house Saturday (Feb. 21) at 2544 Orkney Way in the Garibaldi Highlands from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. parents are invited to learn about the Rainbow Preschool.



One of our long time residents, Ed Antosh, will be featured on Community 10 next week on the Not Just for Seniors program. It will be aired on Tuesday (Feb. 24) at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. and on Wednesday (Feb. 25) at 10 a.m., 7 and 10 p.m.



The 撸奶社区Public Library's Family Storytime on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 7:30 p.m. has room for more parents and children. Youngsters are welcome to wear their pajamas and take along their favourite soft toy and gather around the fireplace for just half an hour to hear wonderful bedtime stories. Looking for a gift for that special baby or little child? A lovely selection of plush toys including bunnies, lambs and ducks has arrived at the gift shop at 撸奶社区General Hospital. There are also a variety of other new items and the Women's Auxiliary to 撸奶社区General Hospital who keep the gift shop open hope that you will drop by to check out the gift ideas. All purchases at the shop go towards new equipment at the hospital.



The Vancouver Coastal Health Unit is offering an interactive workshop for parents on teaching your children the "Facts of Life". Discussion will include; what kind of sexual health information is needed at various ages, what kind of words to use exploring your own personal beliefs around sensitive topics and more. It will be lead by Joy Becker, a nurse educator who has worked in the fields of sexuality education for over 10 years.

The evening will be held on Monday, Mar. 1 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the 撸奶社区Public Library. There is no charge for attending this gathering. Please call the Health Unit at 604-892-2293 to reserve a seat. If you wish more information cal Sue King, Public Health Nurse at the same number.



Saturday, Feb. 28 will be an exciting day when 撸奶社区celebrates the Wild at Art Winter Arts Festival. It's at the 撸奶社区Town Centre (downtown Squamish) from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and will include concerts, art exhibits, special events and feature the band Tiller's Folly. Many local artists and musicians will also be involved.



The Hearts in Motion Walking Club will meet at the Chamber of Commerce building in downtown 撸奶社区on Monday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. New members welcome and for more information please phone Elaine Kotyk at 604-898-9498 or Julie Miles at 604-898-4316.



There are two TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) chapters in 撸奶社区and one in Britannia Beach. On Sunday, (Feb. 22) from 1 to 3 p.m. there is an Open House hosted by the three groups at the Tantalus Senior Centre on Pemberton Avenue. An invitation is extended to the community to attend. Refreshments will be served.



V-Day is coming back to 撸奶社区as the 撸奶社区Nation (Valley) Women present a benefit performance of Eve Ensler's play The Vagina Monologues next month.The performance takes place at Totem Hall on Saturday, Mar. 6 at 7:30 p.m. The benefit will also feature a silent auction and hors d'oeuvres.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. Tickets will be $12 in advance and $15 at the door and will be available at Billie's Bouquet, the Eagle Run Coffee Company and Totem Hall.
