Each year a National Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job is commemorated. This Sunday (April 25) the community of 撸奶社区is invited to attend this special service at 10:45 a.m. at the Pavilion Park at the site of the Memorial Dogwood Tree and Workers Memorial Monument.
Later this year, the B.C. Museum of Mining at Britannia Beach is planning a 100th reunion honouring those who lived, worked and died at Britannia. At the Day of Mourning ceremony on Sunday, special acknowledgement will be given to workers killed during the mines operation. The finale for the Howe Sound Music Festival will be the Awards Gala Saturday (April 24) at 6:30 p.m. in the 撸奶社区Baptist Church. This event will feature performances from choral, band, piano and vocal medal winners and scholarship and provincial nominees. There will be a $2 admission fee. The festival is under the sponsorship of the Howe Sound Arts Association.
July 1 is the next Multicultural Day hosted by the 撸奶社区Nation. Individuals interested in representing their culture are invited to attend a startup meeting on Tuesday, (April 27) at 6 p.m. at the 撸奶社区Nation's Social Development office at 100 Billy Road. It is the bottom road (left hand turn after railway tracks) near the waterfront on the Stawamus Reserve. The seventh annual Brohm Lake Clean-up is this Sunday (April 25) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Many volunteers are needed to help out the Ezee Breathers Scuba Club Divers on this annual Earth Day event.
The plays and musicals presented by the Howe Sound Secondary School over the years have always been great, and I'm sure many of us are anxious to see their next production of the musical 42nd Street. It hits the stage at Eagle Eye Theatre April 28, 29, 30 and May 1, and the next week from May 5 to 8 at 7:30 p.m. each night. Tickets are available at Stylezone and at the school.
St. John's Anglican Church (behind the Sea to Sky Hotel) is holding a garage sale Saturday (April 24) from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. It will also include white elephant, books and a new table of clothing, etc. Refreshments will be available.
Another Knack to Knit session will be held at the 撸奶社区Public Library on Sunday (April 25) from 1 to 4 p.m. Pre-registration is requested if you need supplies, the usual cost being between $15 to $18.
The 撸奶社区Valley Quilters' Guild is having a quilters display weekend at the 撸奶社区Public Library on May 1 and 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and an open invitation is extended to the community to view the work of their members.

There is a bottle drive Saturday (April 24) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. sponsored by the 撸奶社区Pirates Swim Club. Next week summer registration begins for the swim club on Tuesday (April 27) and Thursday (April 29) and during the first week in May from 5 to 7 p.m. at the pool. The May Fair sponsored by the Waldorf Cedar Valley School last year was a big hit. There is another one planned this year for May 8.
