After the past few weeks of electioneering, the candidates and the rest of Canadian voters will head to the polls on Monday, June 28 to cast their votes in the federal general election. It is a good idea to take along the voter information card we received in the mail as it will give us quicker access to our polling station at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre. The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The B.C. and Yukon Command of the Royal Canadian Legion have proclaimed June 25-30 as Legion Week. Saturday (June 26) the Diamond Head Branch #277 RCL is holding an open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it will feature Canada Day artwork from the grade 5 students in our area. In the evening, a summer fundraiser in the form of a dinner and dance will begin with the dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Later, Ron Marier will provide the music for the dancing. The Weekend to End Breast Cancer fundraiser has a garage and bake sale planned for Saturday (June 26) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 37717 Second Avenue. The participants from 撸奶社区who will be taking part in the walk in August include Cloanne Morasse, Wendy Gray and Lail Weeks.
Children ages six to 12 years are invited to participate in the Hooked on Books Program at the 撸奶社区Public Library throughout the summer. The program includes reading and other fun activities. Also, a family program will take place every Sunday where parents and children of all ages will get a chance to interact in a wide range of crafts and games. Pre-registration for the Hooked on Books program begins July 3 to July 10. Space is limited for these programs, so to avoid disappointment, please register early.
The 137th Canada Day celebrations on Thursday (July 1) will be held at the 撸奶社区Pavilion and Stan Clarke Park in downtown Squamish, There are family fun activities from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. including races and ribbons for all ages.
The official flag raising ceremony at Stan Clarke Park begins at 11 a.m. led by the Royal Canadian Legion Diamond Head Branch #277 and the Black Tusk Caledonia Pipe Band. I believe there will also be cadets and other groups participating. Stay for the birthday cake, Lions Club BBQ and canine sports demonstrations.
The community is also invited to the Multicultural Day sponsored by the 撸奶社区Nation held at Totem Hall from noon to 6 p.m. on Canada Day. Included will be ethnic singing, dancing, drumming and a fine variety of ethnic food.
Other locations to visit on Canada Day are the West Coast Railway Heritage Park and the B.C. Museum of Mining in Britannia Beach.

The District of 撸奶社区is sponsoring the first annual Garibaldi Day with events planned on Saturday, July 3 and Sunday July 4. On Saturday at 7:30 p.m., the District will host a special public presentation at the 撸奶社区Public Library of historic artifacts pertaining to Giuseppe Garibaldi's life.
The formal re-dedication of the Garibaldi Monument, at Watts Point (three miles south of Squamish) will take place at 12 noon on July 4 and will be followed by the Garibaldi Day picnic at Stan Clarke Park from 1 to 5 p.m. Many activities are planned including children's activities, bocce tournament, performing artists and more.
On the July 2-4 weekend, 100 years of Britannia Beach will be celebrated. This will be a time for much reminiscing as family and friends from afar and near get together to share their memories of Britannia.
The 撸奶社区Farmers Market opens for the summer tomorrow. Saturday (June 26) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The location is the parking lot between the Chamber office and Victoria Street off Cleveland Avenue.
