Are you a fan of emo and alt-rock music from the 90s and 2000s? Then you won’t want to miss this Squamish’s band debut.

The band Fresh Cut Grass is performing its free, debut show at The Backyard on Friday, March 8, around 8 p.m. The five-person cover band consists of Jake DePodesta on vocals, Ian Coll on guitar, Noah Beez on guitar, Dave Swan on bass, and Scott Barrow on drums.

“We came up with a number of artists that we wanted to cover and we kind of came up with this idea of focusing on the nostalgia of the 90s, 2000s where we feel like music was kind of at its golden era,” said Barrow in an interview with The 撸奶社区. “It was unapologetic. It was kind of raw and angsty.”

The band’s website lists over 20 bands possible for its setlist including Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jimmy Eat World, Foo Fighters, Weezer, Fall Out Boy and Blink-182. The band’s website also has a video showcasing their cover of Wish You Were Here by Incubus.

Barrow said the group of five is relatively new playing together, but they have been musicians for a number of years outside of the band. He said when they first started getting together they all shared similar tastes in music, which led to forming the cover band.

Moreover, he said there should be a lot of folks in 撸奶社区and the Sea to Sky Corridor who would enjoy this genre of music.

Just a few days out from the debut show, Barrow said they are excited to perform.

“We feel really good about the set, we’ve got almost two hours of music,” he said.

After the show at The Backyard, Fresh Cut Grass will be performing at Trickster’s Hideout on April 5. At that show, he said they’re going to perform and then also have a DJ follow-up who will play 90s and 2000s hip-hop.

“The idea there is that we're really appealing to people that want to reminisce and feel that nostalgia,” he said of the Trickster’s Hideout event.

While those are two immediate shows, Barrow said they are hoping to plan more in 撸奶社区and the Sea to Sky Corridor in the future.
