Squamish men are being invited to stand up and be counted in the fight to eradicate violence against women at an upcoming event in downtown Squamish.
The Howe Sound Women鈥檚 Centre Society is organizing the annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes event on Saturday, July 5.听
The family event will see men gather pledges and bring awareness to the issue of gender violence by walking a loop around downtown 撸奶社区wearing women鈥檚 red, high-heeled shoes, collecting donations along the way.
While it鈥檚 part of an international movement, each pledge walk is organized and operated locally for the benefit of the local community, Howe Sound Women Centre鈥檚 resource development manager Megan Reynolds told the 撸奶社区 last year.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 a really neat concept because it鈥檚 scalable and yet it has a powerful and consistent message about preventing violence in our communities,鈥� she said.听
Friends and family are encouraged to march as well in support of the well-heeled participants. Participants are urged to dress as they normally would, particularly in uniforms or work gear.听 Participants are urged to pre-register and start collecting pledges, or registration is also available on July 5 starting at 10:30 a.m., with the walk beginning at 11.
