This weekend, the Sea to Sky Singers will be performing two concerts, with the first at the Brackendale Art Gallery tomorrow evening (April 25) at 7:30 p.m. and also on Sunday (April 26) at 3 p.m. in the 撸奶社区United Church on Fourth Avenue. The theme, "Singin' in the Rain' will bring back wonderful memories to many. Another set of Storytime has wrapped up at the 撸奶社区Public Library Please register for the next session on Monday (April 27) starting at noon. In celebration of New Westminster's 150th birthday and the 100th anniversary of Interurban rail service in the area, special Royal Hudson Steam Train Excursions between New Westminster and Cloverdale and return will take place on Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3. These special train excursions are sponsored by the West Coast Railway Association, Fraser River Discovery Centre and SRY Rail Link. On Friday and Saturday, May 1 and 2, the Women's Auxiliary to 撸奶社区General Hospital will be selling tickets on their Mother's Day raffle to be drawn on May 8. The prizes are $250, $175 and $100 cash. The gift shop at SGH has beautiful serving trays for sale as well as smock dresses for the two to sic year olds and fleece-lined raincoats for the same age group.
VISUALS, the 撸奶社区Valley Artists Society and Kay Austen present Down and Dirty: a Potter at Work. Master potter Kay will demonstrate clay-forming and finishing techniques on and off the potter's wheel at Glacier Gallery Pottery, 1071 Glacier View Drive, Garibaldi Highlands. The dates are Saturday, May 2 and Sunday May 3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. One day is $30, both days $50 and drop-in up to an hour, $10. On May 12 British Columbians will again have the option to vote yes in favour of changing the voting system to singe transferable vote (STV) as recommended by the B.C. Citizen's Assembly for Electoral Reform. At a meeting I attended recently, the presenter, Chris Joseph, said this new voting system will make B.C. politics more fair and will give us better local representation, and we will have more choices at the ballot box.
