Squamish singles now have a regular destination to get to know each other 鈥 three minutes at a time.
Speed dating debuts at the Spice Root Kitchen and Bar on June 12 and will run every second Thursday each month.
Organizer Marie-Pier Dionne said the idea is to give local singles the chance to interact in a relaxed setting.
鈥溸D躺缜鴌s a hard town to just go and meet people,鈥 she said.听
鈥淭here鈥檚 lots of biking and outdoorsy things, but this will be a singles night out and we want to make it a fun thing to do once a month.鈥
The Living Room hosted a speed-dating event in November and Dionne said it was a successful event, with one of the couples who met at that event still dating. She said the format will be similar to the previous event.
The speed-dating portion kicks off at 7 p.m. and there will be a maximum of 15 men and 15 women. Each conversation will last three minutes and then each single will move on to the next person.
鈥淚t鈥檚 really quick and we want to make this fun,鈥 she said. 鈥淭here is a community in 撸奶社区that is single and it went really well before, so why not keep doing it?鈥
Singles will continue with the speed dating portion of the event until 8:30 p.m., when it will turn into a singles mingle event.听
Everyone is welcome to join and anyone who isn鈥檛 comfortable doing the speed dating can come out and meet others inside Spice Root.
Dionne said contact information will be exchanged when both singles are interested and invitations will be extended to future speed dating events for singles who haven鈥檛 yet met their match.
The speed dating costs $35 and includes a drink and appetizers, while the single mingle is $10 and includes one drink. Tickets are available at Spice Root.
Dionne encouraged singles to bring their single friends and have a good time.
鈥淟ast time we ended up having more guys than girls,鈥 she said, laughing.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 ideal to have the same amount, so come with two girlfriends or two guy friends. Bring all your single friends and everyone can go out and have fun.鈥
