Sharing a prayer, raising a voice

The 14th annual Kindergarten Reception will be held at the 撸奶社区Public Library on Friday (April 27) from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Children are invited to enjoy an hour of stories, get a library card and to find out about all the awesome programs that are available at the library.

The Brackendale Babes Relay for Life Team is holding a special garage sale on Saturday (April 28) in the parking lot at the Brackendale Art Gallery from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a good selection of furniture, kids clothing, toys and much more. A bake sale is planned and coffee, muffins and other treats will be available by donation. The proceeds from this garage sale will go to the Blake family, who are now in Boston with their young daughter Jasmine who is undergoing special cancer treatment. Please support this great cause.

A special concert is planned at St. John's Anglican Church on Wednesday (May 2) at 7 p.m. when the 16-voice Canadian Mennonite University Chamber Choir and the Sea to Sky Singers join their voices together for this performance. The event is courtesy of Howe Sound Performing Arts Association and admission is by donation.

A bottle drive to raise money for the Mamquam Elementary School Grade 7 class year-end field trip is planned on Saturday (April 28) from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Students and parents will be going door to door; if you won't be home, donations may be left on the doorstep with a label. The 撸奶社区Food Bank will open its doors from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alano Club on Third Avenue for grocery distribution on Wednesday (May 2).

The 撸奶社区Hospice Society is inviting those who have experienced the death of a loved one to join the Courage to Grieve Bereavement Support Group. The six-week facilitated group will meet each Wednesday from May 2 to June 6 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the 撸奶社区Hospice office at 38150 Behrner Dr. Pre-registration is required by calling Wendy at (604) 892-1552.

Remember, the Re-Use-It Fair is on at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre on Saturday (April 28) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Healthy Brain Group for Older Adults will meet at the 撸奶社区Mental Health office at 38075 Second Ave. on Tuesday (May 1) from 10 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, please contact Delores Stewart at (604) 892-6400.

Social networking computers classes are held at the Senior Centre on Fridays from 2 to 3 p.m. with a drop-in fee. Learn how to use Gmail, Skype and Facebook so you can communicate with your loved ones near and far. Rhythmic Gymnastics is ongoing each Tuesday and Thursday to May 10. It's not too late to sign up for this class.

There is a bingo at the Legion on Monday (April 30) with doors open at 5:30 p.m. The Legion will be discontinuing bingo unless more people attend!

Howe Sound Secondary School plays and musicals never disappoint and I am sure the musical Bye Bye Birdie will be a big hit as well. Opening night was last night (April 25) but performances are also planned tonight (Thursday, April 26) through Saturday (April 28) starting at 7:30 p.m. Next week the musical runs from May 2 to 5 at the same time. Tickets are available at the Style Zone, Billie's Bouquet and at the school at $12 for adults and $10 for children and seniors.
