SES bird outing planned

After reading David Burke's article in The Chief last week ("Spreading the 'Patch' message") regarding a very caring and dedicated volunteer, Kirsten Walter, and her upcoming trip to help the destitute in Peru, it is hoped many will attend the fundraiser planned for tomorrow (July 9) from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Canadian Tire parking lot. There are activities for the kids, a dunk tank ($5), silent auction and much more. To attend the Gesundheit program, Kirsten must raise $1,400.

The ߣÄÌÉçÇøEnvironmental Society has its monthly bird count on Sunday (July 10) when participants will gather at 7 a.m. at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub. At this time of year, very young birds are learning the ways of the world and the birders are hoping to see this happen. New members are always welcome. Every Thursday in July is Grandparents Day at the Seniors Centre starting at 9:30 a.m. Along with paint and sketch, music and games, youngsters can also try carpet bowling and (weather permitting) lawn bowling. Most of the activities are suitable for those ages five years and up. Plan on staying for lunch at the Clock Tower Café, open Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Summer Storytimes will run until Friday (Aug. 26) at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library.

Books for Babies is Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1 p.m., Time with Tots is Fridays at 10:30 to 11 a.m., Preschool is Fridays at 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. and Family Storytime on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. to noon and Sundays at 2 to 2:30 p.m.

The Caregivers Support Group is meeting throughout the summer and the next session will be held on Wednesday (July 13) from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Seniors Centre. For more information, please contact Donna or Nadine at (604) 892-6400.

Children are encouraged to join the Summer Reading Club at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library. Rambunctious Readers (ages six to nine) meet Tuesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Tween Readers (ages 10 to 12) meet Wednesdays from 2 to 3 p.m. Each child will receive a bookmark and reading log. The Over the Hill Hikers are asked to meet at the Adventure Centre on Tuesday (July 12) at 9 a.m. for a trip to Nelson Canyon to Whyte Creek and along with the hike, perhaps a swim? For more information, call Heather at (604) 892-9003.
