SDBA hitting the water

Local dragon boat club invites community to paddle

After a successful year on the water all over B.C., the 撸奶社区Dragon Boat Association (SDBA) is returning to local waters and the entire community is invited.

The SDBA is hosting its annual Learn How To Paddle program for the next four Sundays starting on Sept. 14, with men and women of all ages invited to learn the basics.聽

There is a $20 fee to participate in all four sessions and the club provides all equipment. Participants will hit the water on the Cattermole Slough during the sessions.聽

Team Chawanda, the all-female SDBA team, competed at three events this year. The club travelled to Vancouver, Nanaimo and Victoria and posted their top time of 2:21.4 in Victoria鈥檚 500 metre race.

Male and female SDBA members also teamed up in Harrison Hot Springs to place second in a consolation division with a time of 2:17.0 in the 500m race.

The fall sees the debut of the Quest University Dragon Boat team, as the sport continues to grow in Squamish.

Those interested in the intro session are asked to meet at the gravel lot at the south end of Cleveland Avenue near the Howe Sound Brew Pub at 3:45 p.m. for the next four Sundays.聽
