Rotary hands out grants

Youth-oriented Sea to Sky programs supported

The Rotary Club of 撸奶社区last week handed out approximately $15,000 in gaming grant money in support of youth-oriented programs in 撸奶社区and the Sea to Sky Corridor.

At a gathering last Thursday (June 12) at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Co., Rotary president Mike Nasu and his team handed out cheques to Big Brothers/Big Sisters Teen Mentoring Program ($2,000), 撸奶社区Search and Rescue for a dry suit ($500) and Biathlon Bears for the purchase of roller skis ($1,000). Also receiving support were the North Shore Schizophrenic Society Sea to Sky for teen suicide prevention training and volunteer training ($1,000), the 撸奶社区School Breakfast Program ($5,000) and Camp Summit to help send underprivileged kids to camp ($1,000).

The balance of the gaming money is used for a Rotary youth programs such as a youth leadership camp and an adventure tourism leadership camp held in Kelowna.

The Rotary Club of 撸奶社区has applied for and received provincial gaming grant money for the past eight years. The club has distributed $120,000 to community programs during that period, Liz Scott, Rotary Club of 撸奶社区gaming chair stated.
