The West Coast Railway Heritage Park is looking for a few good men and women to volunteer at the park for the busy summer season.
Several positions are available and park officials said no one is too young or too old to help out.
Positions advertised include gardening, mini-rail engineers, restoration projects, special projects, carpenters, metal fabricators, tour guides, mini rail maintenance, costume designers and sewers, face painting and camp counselors.
Positions that deal with young people will require an RCMP criminal check. Anyone interested can contact Jeanene at [email protected] or call the park at (604) 898-9336.
One of the bigger events at the park this summer will be the celebration to mark the 100th anniversary of the Pacific Great Eastern (PGE) Railway. Back in 1912, the line that runs through the park was constructed and the event will see fans and modellers of the railway descend on Squamish.
The convention will take place from Friday through Sunday (July 13 to 15) and features clinics on modelling, an afternoon excursion and a display hall of memorabilia from over the years. For more information on the event, contact Brian Clogg at [email protected].
Other events include the Sea to Sky Family Service teddy bear picnic on July 18 and the B.C. Rail Pioneers barbecue on July 20. The park also hosts four-day summer camps for children aged seven to 11. The camps operate from Monday to Thursday and offer several daily activities including a sleepover on a train.
The park is also hosting a free summer evening of music and wine on July 27 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The event marks the arrival of the park's newly donated Yamaha grand piano.
