All aboard! The popular Polar Express will soon be back in town for its annual visit to the West Coast Railway Heritage Park.
It's the fourth time the spectacle has come to ߣÄÌÉçÇøand the train will be running four dates this year, as opposed to only two in the past. Rides will be offered on Nov. 26 and 27, along with Dec. 3 and 4.
The CN Roundhouse and Conference Centre will also be involved as the building will be transformed into the "North Pole" with a number of activities to keep the whole family occupied.
The park's general manager Dave Thomson said the train's journey never fails to be a "magical" experience for everyone involved.
"It's about a 48- to 60-minute trip and we'll have hot chocolate and candies for passengers to nibble on," he said. "The Polar Express story will be read over the sound system and it's just a really fun train ride for people of all ages."
The train goes south down the tracks all the way to the ߣÄÌÉçÇøEstuary and then returns to the Railway Park.
"There will also be a Santa's Workshop in our North Pole and a number of other Christmas activities going on," said Thomson.
At the workshop, kids will get an opportunity to build things, similar to Santa's elves at the North Pole. There will also be a chance to visit and take photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus and ride the mini-rail.
Tickets for the Polar Express are available for purchase by calling (604) 898-9336, online by emailing [email protected] or by dropping into the park.
Coach seats are $19 for children aged two to 12 and $23 for adults aged 13 and up. Those wanting to splurge can experience the train ride in first class for $34. First-class ticket holders get assigned seating and are the first on and off of the train. In addition, all first-class ticket holders will receive a special collector's mug. Those looking for a unique riding experience can purchase the caboose tickets at a cost of $50. Act fast, though, because the caboose only has two seats per ride.
The train ride runs Saturday, Nov. 26 and Sunday, Nov. 27, along with Saturday, Dec. 3 and Sunday, Dec. 4 with departure times of 10 a.m., noon, 2 and 4 p.m.
