Deer are a common sight in Squamish, so we caught up with Vanessa Isnardy of for some fun facts about these hoofed neighbours.

•B.C. is home to three types of deer and two species: mule deer (Odocoileus hemionus), black-tailed deer (also Odocoileus hemionus ) and white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus).

•After black bears, deer are the most reported species to the with an average of 4,500 reports in B.C. per year.

•Soon, it will be fawning season and female deer (does) can be very protective of their offspring.

•Please keep your pets on a leash and do not let them chase deer.

•Keeping your dog on a leash will also keep your pet safe.
