A new barbershop has cut out a space for itself in downtown Squamish.
Owner Liam O’Callaghan recently opened his new barbershop, O’Callaghan’s Barbershop, at 38019 Second Ave., just northeast of the Victoria Street and Second Avenue intersection. The shop itself is filled with a seating area, a green-painted accent wall and several chairs for the barbers to perform their work.
“I just wanted to get set up and do my own thing,” said O’Callaghan. “And just be able to give people the opportunity to work under me as well, too, because I know getting into the barber industry and getting into the trade can be quite challenging.”
O’Callaghan said he’s been barbering for roughly four years. He said he’s originally from Toronto, but went to barber school in Edmonton before landing in Squamish. O’Callaghan worked at Fresh Cuts Barbershop before opening this space on Second Avenue.
The shop has only been open for about one week so far.
“We don’t even have the sign up yet, but it’s going well,” he said. “Getting lots of support. Lots of local businesses are shouting us out as well, too.”
Currently, he and one other barber nicknamed “Bubba” are working there. Booking services are best done through , he said.
As for styles, he said he offers all types of fades and barbershop style cuts for anyone who keeps a short haircut.
“Skin fades, taper fades, long hair cut, short hair cuts, beard trims, all that stuff as well,” he said. “Any like short hair clipper cuts, stuff like that. I can do barber-style haircuts.”
The barbershop is open 7 days a week.
