Obituary: Margaret Mary (Denney) Johnson

Margaret Mary (Denney) Johnson and husband John operated The Country Store in Squamish.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Margaret Mary (Denney) Johnson on Feb. 22, 2024, at St. Paul's Hospital.

Marg was born on Sept. 21, 1946, in Edmonton to Maxine and Hugh Denney, but moved to Winnipeg in her early childhood.

During her high school years, Marg followed her passion for singing by joining the drama and opera club.

She went on to perform in many musicals and retained her love of music throughout her life.

After graduating from Grant Park High School in 1965, Marg got her first job in the advertising department of The Bay.

In 1967, Marg married her high school sweetheart, John Johnson, and moved to Calgary.

A few years later, Marg and John relocated to Squamish, to start their family. Derek was born in 1973, followed by Ryan four years later.

While raising the boys, Marg continued to work at a few local businesses, until in 1986 the opportunity to purchase The Country Store arose.

Marg dedicated the next 20 years to building the business while providing 撸奶社区with a unique experience in her cozy store filled with beloved treasures.

In 2006, Marg closed the store to enjoy time with her grandchildren and care for her husband, John.

They were looking forward to celebrating their 57th year of marriage this April.

Marg is survived by her loving husband, John, children— Derek (Rene,) Ryan (Kim Ginou,)—grandchildren—Cooper, Jada, Jake, Jace, and Kim's son Layton— brother Denis (Jan), and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Marg on May 4th, 2024, at the Howe Sound Inn, located at 37801 Cleveland Ave., from 1 to 4 p.m..
