Locarno returns to Brackendale Art Gallery

The band Locarno will be performing at the Brackendale Art Gallery on Saturday (Oct. 18) at 8 p.m. Tickets at $20 each are available at the gallery and at Xocolatl.

Each year, the Hilltop House Support Society and many other volunteers host the annual Harvest Tea. The date this year is Saturday (Oct. 18) from 1:30 to 3 p.m. For just $5 you will receive a slice of homemade delicious pie along with tea or coffee. Donations for the bake table are always appreciated ad can be taken to Hilltop House after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. Along with the bake sale, there is a raffle and 50/50 draw. One of the raffle prizes is a family winter pass for the Sea to Sky Gondola. Special accolades to those volunteers who give of their time and talents to enrich the lives of Hilltop House residents.

The ߣÄÌÉçÇøGardeners will meet at the Sandman Inn in Monday (Oct. 20). The meeting will begin at 6:45 p.m. but there will be a plant exchange before the meeting. The evening’s speaker will be Sharon Hanna and her topic will be All About Kale. Copies of her second book, The Book of Kale and Friend will be available for sale and Sharon will sign them for you. Non-members are welcome to attend for a $5 drop-in fee.

Professor Jeff Warren from Quest University will be at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library tonight (Thursday, Oct. 16) at 6:30 p.m. to speak on Music and Ethical Responsibility.

The Seniors Immunization and Wellness Fair sponsored by Vancouver Coastal Health and the District of ߣÄÌÉçÇøwill be held on Wednesday (Oct. 29) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the ߣÄÌÉçÇøSeniors Centre. Flu shots are free for those 65 years and up, and please remember to take your Care card along.

An interesting presentation at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library on Tuesday (Oct. 21) at 6:30 p.m. in the BC Hydro Community Room is entitled Hop Farming in the ߣÄÌÉçÇøValley. This local history talk about hop farming includes its role in the early development of the valley, its significance for local First Nations communities and its potential for the future.

The theme luncheon at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøSeniors Centre on Thursday (Oct. 30) at 11:45 a.m. will have a Halloween theme and there will be a prize draw for those in costume. The menu includes hot turkey sandwiches, fries and pumpkin pie. Tickets at $9 for members and $10 for non-members must be purchased by Wednesday (Oct. 29).

Join conservationist and photographer Ian McAllister at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library on Thursday (Oct. 23) at 6:30 p.m. when he speaks on The Great Bear Wild Tour and the endangerment now faced by these bears.

Winners in the Rotary 200 Club lottery for October are: Jane Price, Tantalus Bike Shop, Freda Hoff and Gary Taylor.

A Halloween craft event is planned at the ߣÄÌÉçÇøPublic Library on Friday (Oct. 24) from 2 to 3 p.m. It will be a fun afternoon of crafts and refreshments. This gathering is suitable for young children to do with a parent or caregiver. Please drop by the library or call (604) 892-3110 to register.

Ladies Curling begins next week on Tuesday (Oct. 21) but any ladies in the community interested in joining is asked to be at the Curling Club on Monday (Oct. 20) from 7 to 9 p.m. to try curling out. No equipment is necessary; just clean shoes. Anyone wishing more information is asked to call Karen at (604) 898-5682.
