This month, students in the Athletic Leadership class at Howe Sound Secondary School put on the first school-wide Terry Fox run in a decade. The run, on Sept. 12, was held to not only raise money for the Terry Fox Foundation, but also as a way to rejuvenate the athletic program at HSSS.
Participants ran a three-kilometre loop through local neighbourhoods. The Chef's Training program also sold a special meal with 20 per cent of all proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation. The run had a great turnout and students seemed very enthusiastic.Starting at 10:30 a.m., students enjoyed fantastic weather for this fun event. A pre-run warmup got everyone in the spirit and made a great environment overall.
Said Fox, "Even if I don't finish, we need others to continue. It's got to keep going without me."
In the legacy of Terry Fox, HSS will once again continue to hold yearly runs.
