Don't worry about that person trying to look over your fence or the one who's staring intently at your pansies. They might just be one of the "investigators" from the 撸奶社区Gardeners.
For the past few months, members of the club have been keeping their eyes peeled for standout local gardens to showcase in the 15th annual garden tour. This year's tour takes place on June 23 and Dorte Froslev from the group said it should be another banner year.
"The committee gets together every year to try to find 10 gardens for the tour," she said. "We put together a call out for gardens, but the problem is people tend to be a little shy about their gardens."
Froslev said club members try their best to notice some of the shy local people who possess green thumbs.
"We sneak around the neighbourhood a little," she said, laughing. "Maybe peek over a few fences. We also ask people in the gardening industry for their opinions, but you always need to be on the watch for a good garden."
The event allows 撸奶社区residents the opportunity to check out 10 different local gardens on a self-directed tour. There will also be art and music from the Howe Sound Performing Arts Association (HSPAA) and Visuals 撸奶社区in selected gardens.
There will also be a master gardener clinic at Carol Anderson's garden in Garibaldi Highlands. Anderson will entertain questions and offer advice for any aspiring gardeners.
The tour has a few rules: pets and baby strollers are not allowed; houses are not open to the public; there is no smoking allowed and organizers advise the public not to pick or eat any of the vegetables, fruit or plants located at the gardens.
A raffle draw featuring more than 30 prizes will have tickets available for purchase at all 10 locations. The $2 raffle ticket will see all proceeds go to the Friends of the 撸奶社区Library, the HSPAA and Visuals Squamish.
Tickets and a guide for the event are available at the 撸奶社区Adventure Centre, Anna's Attic, Garibaldi Nurseries, On the Farm and the 撸奶社区Public Library and cost $15. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on June 23.
The 撸奶社区Gardeners also encourage those interested to join them on the third Monday of each month for the group's guest speaker program. Anyone wanting to have her or his garden on display in 2014 are also urged to contact the group.
