District opens new park

Site features pump track, picnic tables and small watercraft launch

Squamish鈥檚 newest park is now open to the public.

On the August long weekend, District of 撸奶社区officials, 撸奶社区Nation leaders, provincial and federal representatives cut the ribbon on a green space that connects downtown to the waterfront.聽

The municipally owned property is located between Victoria and Main streets along the Mamquam Blind Channel. It includes a pump track 鈥 courtesy of the 撸奶社区Off-Road Cycling Association 鈥 picnic tables, benches and a beach launch for kayaks, canoes and paddleboards.聽

The lot is valued at an estimated $3.6 million. Last year, the municipality acquired the industrially zoned waterfront parcel through a provincial government program.聽

The current park is considered 鈥渢emporary use鈥 in order to open it up as quickly as possible to the community, district officials stated in a press release.聽

鈥淟ong term visioning will take place prior to the district investing in full-scale remediation of the property,鈥 the release stated regarding required environmental clean up work.聽
