Sea to Sky Community Services (SSCS) is inviting the community to an afternoon of live music, face painting an interactive community art project and more this weekend.
Neighbours, friends and families are welcome to join in the fun at the Community Fair on Saturday (Oct. 29) from 1 to 3 p.m. at Totem Hall. Among the attractions are live music by Susan Holden and Shone Harcourt, children's entertainment and face painting, snacks and beverages, an interactive community art project with Toby Jaxon and a best pie contest for anyone interested in showing off their baking talents and winning a prize.
The event will mark October as Community Living Month, an annual B.C.-wide celebration of the achievements and contributions of people with developmental disabilities. The Community Fair is a free event open to all members of the community.
"Community Living means a couple of things. First, it is the supports and programs we provide to people, ranging from babies to seniors, who live with developmental disabilities and other special needs," Donna Bent, SSCS manager of community living, said in a statement. "In a more general sense, Community Living is about living in an inclusive community that supports and appreciates all of its members; a community where everyone has opportunities to contribute and grow."
In the past, the SSCS Community Living team has marked the month with a variety of events including community clean-up and beautification projects and events highlighting the numerous contributions of Community Living Program participants, participation in Squamish's annual Art Walk as well as a potluck which has grown over the years to include an average of 100 people.
The Community Fair is taking place in partnership with ߣÄÌÉçÇøNation and with the support of Save On Foods, Starbucks, McDonald's and Only Deals Dollar Store.
