ABOUT TOWN: Sound Youth Chorus sings Sunday

The Sound Youth Chorus is having its end of season concert this Sunday, June 13 at 6 p.m. at St. John the Divine Anglican Church. All are welcome. Please come and celebrate the end of the first season of Squamish's community youth choir.

Still Dancing is pleased to be presenting "The Circus" when ballet, jazz, tap and street jazz hits the stage at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre for two performances Saturday (June 12) at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. In all, more than 180 dancers will be performing. Pick your tickets up at The Bookshelf, Anglican Church, Lucky Loonie, Still Dancing School and at the door with $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and children.

The annual Children's Health Fair will be held at Brennan Park Recreation Centre next Friday (June 18) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The theme this year is Bugs, Bubbles and Butterflies and is for all pre-schoolers. REgistration is free but donations to the 撸奶社区Food Bank wool be appreciated. The Health Zone is for kindergarten immunization, and there will also be the Active Zone - face painting, games, the Education Zone - participation by local schools, Community Resources Zone - 撸奶社区Public Library and child care, Dental and Vision Zone and Retail Zone. The Recreation Centre's Pre-School will have open house from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Light snacks will be available.

On Thursday (June 17) from 1 to 3 p.m. the 撸奶社区Seniors Creative Connections Group and the 撸奶社区Seniors Centre are hosting Who's Who in the Zoo? Sarah Braebrook a Financial Planner will speak on what you need to know before you speak to a financial planner. This free workshop will be held at the Seniors Centre and will cover essential information you need to know on a range of financial planners/investment products and how they relate to security, estate and retirement issues. The 撸奶社区Environmental Society will hold its monthly bird count on Sunday (June 13) and participants are asked to meet at the Howe Sound Inn and Brewing Company at 7 a.m. This month the group will be looking for new young birds (ducks, robins, chickadees and all levels of birds). The WOW Riders are going to Port Coquitlam on Monday (June 14) for a PoCo Trails ride and all members are reminded the group will leave from the Adventure Centre at 9 a.m. If you wish more information, please call Shirley at 604-898-5715.

Hilltop House will celebrate birthdays this month on Wednesday (June 16) at 2 p.m. to honour Harvey Andrew, June Manson, June Laking, Irene Hurford, Lin Hewitt, Alma Thackeray and Doreen Brade.

A Strawberry Social will be held at Hilltop House on Saturday, June 19, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. when you will enjoy shortcake and a drink for $4 each. A craft sale, bake table and 50/50 draw is also planned. Donations of baking and crafts would be much appreciated. The Social will be held in the new addition to Hilltop House.

The next meeting for the Caregivers Support Group will be held on Wednesday (June 16) from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the Seniors' Centre. For more information, please call Donna at 604-892-6400. No meetings are planned during July and August.

The Over the Hills Hikers are asked to meet at Ross and Government Roads at 9 a.m. on Tuesday (June 15) for a hike along the Cheakamus Lake trail.

On Wednesday (June 16) the 撸奶社区Food Bank will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Alano Club on Third Avenue.

An interesting evening is planned at the 撸奶社区Public Library on Thursday (June 17) at 7 p.m. when Quest University Professor Jonathan Warner will speak on How to Make Your Own Money! His address will focus on Complementary Currencies Yesterday and Today. The regular storytime schedule at the library will continue until Saturday, June 19. Please note, the storytimes scheduled for Friday June 18 will be held at the Brennan Park Recreation Centre in conjunction with the annual Kids Health Fair on that date.

The next gathering for the Healthy Brain Group for seniors will be on Tuesday (June 15) from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Mental Health Centre at 38075 Second Avenue. Prior to attending, please contact Delores at 604-892-6400. The group will not meet during July or August.

The 撸奶社区Trails Society will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday (June 17) at 7 p.m. in the 撸奶社区Arts Council building on Cleveland Avenue. For more information, please call Bob Brant at 604-898-4698.

Strengthening the System is a free community forum on food distribution in the Sea to Sky Corridor. It will be held in the 撸奶社区Public Library on Monday, June 21 from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. Participating will be the 撸奶社区Helping Hands Society Food Distribution Group, Joanne Bays, a Vancouver Coastal Health Community Nutritionist and Karen Clarke also with the Vancouver Coastal Health as a Community developer. The Tantalus Seniors' Walking club will meet at Pat Goode Park off Cheakamus Way for a Coho Trail walk at 10 a.m. on Thursday (June 17). For more information, please call Joyce at 604-898-5594.

Pearl's 2nds at 38126 Cleveland Avenue is looking for volunteers who enjoy working in a retail environment and at the same time will gain retail skills and experience. All monies raised at this outlet goes towards the Howe Sound Women's Centre's programs. On Saturday June 5 I attended the 撸奶社区Senior Citizens Home Society event celebrating 40 years of providing affordable housing for seniors in our area. Many directors and former directors and spouses were in attendance and it was interesting to know the history of how the Cedars and 撸奶社区Manor came to be in our community as shared by MC Bill Rempel. It was also good to see former Municipal Administrator, Jim Craven again. The delicious luncheon was enjoyed by residents and visitors including the cutting of a special anniversary cake. Later in the afternoon we were treated to a Frank Sinatra hour as performed by talented George Francis Ellenton.

If you like Chamber Music, then be sure to be at the Brackendale Art Gallery tomorrow night (June 12) at 8 p.m. when the Microcosmos will entertain.
