A fun time is promised at the annual Caribbean Summer Jam set for Sunday (Aug. 11) from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Vertical Reality Sports Store at 37835 Second Avenue.

A fun time is promised at the annual Caribbean Summer Jam set for Sunday (Aug. 11) from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Vertical Reality Sports Store at 37835 Second Avenue. It will be a family festival theme with professional limbo dancer, limbo and hula contests, face painting, contest giveaways and of course, great Caribbean music. Delicious food will be available including Roti dishes, rice pilaf, chickpeas, Jamaican patties and more. Do take along a lawn chair and maybe sunscreen, but please leave your dogs and other pets at home.

The 撸奶社区Art Crawl is ongoing until Sept. 22 and it showcases the talents of many residents and is sponsored by VISUALS 撸奶社区Valley Artists. In last week's issue of The Chief there was a full page filled with maps and various locations and the names of artists and what their specialties are. The next studio tour takes place on Sept. 21 and 22 when artists open their personal studios for public self-guided tours. However, the business/galleries are open for the seven-week duration of Art Crawl.

The 撸奶社区Environmental Society will hold its annual bird count on Sunday (Aug. 11) with members meeting at 7 a.m. at the Howe Sound Inn and Brew Pub. At this time of year, there are more than 60 species in the estuary.

The Hotspot at 38027 Cleveland Avenue is hiring youth interns and this project is an initiative funded by the Government of Canada to provide workplace skills and training to youth between the ages of 15 and 30. Drop by the Hotspot or go to www.seatoskycommunity.org/about/employment for details.

Our town will be overflowing with visitors this weekend starting today (Thursday, Aug. 8) to Sunday (Aug. 10) when the annual 撸奶社区Valley Music Festival is held at the 撸奶社区Loggers Sports grounds. Have fun everyone.

A new program offered in partnership by Recreation Services and Vancouver Coastal Health is entitled Exercise 4 Brain and Neuro Health, and it is a program that will focus on optimizing cardiovascular health, agility and balance, strength and movement, as well as postural flexibility. It will run Mondays and Wednesdays for 12 weeks with a maximum class of eight. To participate in the program you must have a doctor's referral. The cost is $156 plus tax and financial assistance is available for those who qualify. For more information, please contact the Brennan Park Recreation Centre at (604) 898-3604.

When looking for special gifts for babies or toddlers, or gifts for any age, please consider dropping by the gift shop at the 撸奶社区General Hospital (SGH). Volunteers from the Women's Auxiliary to SGH have the shop open Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and your patronage is most appreciated.

Calling all Muggles! The Summer Reading Club is throwing an end-of-summer Harry Potter theme party. Due to past demand, the library is hosting two parties, (Aug. 13 and 14) so please choose the day that works best for you. The party is open to all muggles aged six to 12, and they are encouraged to dress up. Registration opens at 10 a.m. on August 8.
