Shannon Lorenz saw a void in the holiday season in ߣÄÌÉçÇøand shes hoping to fill it with Fresh The ߣÄÌÉçÇøFamily Christmas Market, which takes place on Dec. 3. With a young child of her own, Lorenz said shes looking forward to starting a new local tradition and giving ߣÄÌÉçÇøfamilies the chance to celebrate the holidays close to home. I saw a need for family Christmas activities out here, she said. A lot of my friends have to go to Park Royal for Christmas events and this is also a way for people to help support local artists. There are a lot of young moms in this community and this is the kind of event we need in Squamish. According to Lorenz, the feedback shes received after announcing the event has been positive. Its been really good so far, she said. I met a lot of people and it seems like everyone I talked to was like, Good for you and many offered to help get it started. Lorenz, who has an extensive background in event planning, said the ߣÄÌÉçÇøAdventure Centre should make an ideal location for the event. Why not the Adventure Centre? she said. Its a good location, right off the highway and convenient for people driving. The centre will be jam-packed with more than 20 vendors of all shapes and sizes, along with several other activities to keep kids of all ages occupied. Lorenz partnered with MishMash Play and Learn, which is planning all sorts of arts and crafts for the children in attendance. Santa Claus himself will make an appearance from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with kids getting the chance to get a picture with the big guy in red and also let him know what they want under the tree. After Santa leaves, there will be a silent auction table, with all proceeds going to Community Christmas Care (CCC). Christmas movies will play all day long inside the Adventure Centres auditorium and carolers will sing holiday favourites. Lorenz said shes pleased with the number of vendors that have already signed on and pointed out a few that locals might like to check out. One Earth Collection in Pemberton is coming and theyre really unique and different, she said. And theres also Kris Robinson, who just moved to Squamish. She does contemporary dog art and uses really vibrant colours in her pieces. Admission to the event is free but there will be a CCC donation box. Organizers will also accept non-perishable food items and toys for charity. It all goes down on Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Adventure Centre. For more information on the event, visit .
