VIDEO: Here's what it's like driving through the fire-ravaged Fraser Canyon

Wildfires are currently affecting highway travel across multiple areas in B.C.

If you were thinking about taking a road trip through British Columbia, make sure you plan ahead.

With extreme heat on the horizon and a rapidly dynamic wildfire situation, officials are asking people to make sure they are aware of the risk when travelling.

As of Thursday afternoon, 3,443 properties across the province have been evacuated and 17,679 properties are on alert.

Emergency Info BC wants to make sure every resident is prepared in the event that an evacuation alert or order is issued.

If you have been evacuated from your home and community due to a wildfire you need to register with Emergency Support Services to ensure that people know where you are and that you’re safe.

After this is completed, an unlisted phone number may call you regarding important details.

BC Transportation is urging travellers to slow down, be patient an pay attention. Staff are asking people to avoid communities impacted by wildfires.

Conditions can change suddenly; travellers should be checking DriveBC for current road closures.
