The Abbotsford Summer Flower Festival is happening for the first time in July, 2023, and will feature 45 acres of lavender, sunflower, buckwheat, and other blooms.

Lovers of flora can visit the largest flower festival in the Lower Mainland this summer.

The inaugural  debuted 45 acres of lavender, sunflowers, buckwheat, phacelia, and other feature flowers on July 21 on the same fields as the Abbotsford Tulip Festival. The festival will run until Sept. 4.

There are three main fields for visitors to admire; the lavender fields featuring Provence and English lavender, 20 acres of sunflowers with over 1 million blooms and 30 varieties, and a 10-acre meadow of phacelia pastels, white buckwheat flowers, as well as feature flowers ranging from snap dragons and Black-Eyed Susans to coneflowers and Woodland Sage.

The sunflower field will also have a designated U-pick field and spots to take photos with the yellow florals, including raised wagons, frames, canoes, tractors, and swings.

There will also be two events throughout the festival. On July 28, comedian Cliff Prang will host a comedy show amidst the sea of lavender. A seasonal cocktail dubbed Lakeland Lavender Lemon Fizz and local wines and beers will be available to sip on.

On Aug. 19 live music from the Sun and Soil Series Concert will fill the air as visitors wander through the golden sunflowers.

The Abbotsford Summer Flower Festival is open seven days per week, including statutory holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is located at 3663 Marion Road in Abbotsford.

General admission tickets cost $10 and include a five-stem bunch of sunflowers from the U-pick field. Additional stems cost $1 each and those wanting to use drones in the fields must pay a $10 fee.

Tickets can be purchased .
